FAQ

What do the LMI Blue Light Filtering Glasses do?

Our amber lenses filter approximately 84% of blue light across the 380–500 nm range, including the wavelengths most strongly linked to melatonin suppression. They also block 100% of UVA and UVB light. The lenses have been independently tested by an optical laboratory to confirm these figures.

Why does reducing blue light before sleep matter?

Light is the main signal the brain uses to set its internal clock. Blue light from screens, LEDs and overhead lighting tells the brain it is still daytime, delaying the release of melatonin, the hormone that prepares the body for sleep. Reducing that signal in the evening allows melatonin to rise at its natural time, and clinical studies of amber lenses have shown improvements in how quickly people fall asleep and in perceived sleep quality.

When should I wear them?

Wear them for two to three hours before bed, particularly when using screens or under bright indoor lighting. During the day, blue light is beneficial for alertness and mood, so we recommend 20 to 30 minutes of natural daylight soon after waking, without glasses.

Can I wear them while driving or as sunglasses?

No. The amber tint changes how colours appear, including traffic signals and LED lights, so the glasses should not be worn while driving, day or night. They have a light tint designed for indoor evening use and are not a substitute for sunglasses.
